Jonathan Hickman’s stunning X-Men event kicks off next week (full details of that here). But when that event ends, what’s in store for the X-Men?
Well, Marvel just teased SIX new X-Men books at their Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con and we’ll summarize them for you.
X-Men, written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Leinil Yu.
Look at the cover of X-Men and you’ll see that one of those things is not like the others.
EXCALIBUR, written by Tini Howard with art by Marcus To.
“Mutantkind has always been special…as has their relationship with the world—or WORLDS—around them. Can the new Captain Britain forge a new way through the chaos with her companions Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Rictor…and Apocalypse!?”
MARAUDERS, written by Gerry Duggan with art by Matteo Lolli. The pitch:
“Even in this glorious new dawn, Mutantkind faces hardships and oppression from their human counterparts…
Led by Captain Kate Pryde and funded by Emma Frost and the Hellfire Trading Company, Storm, Pyro, Bishop, and Iceman sail the seas of the world to protect those hated and feared as the MARAUDERS!”
New Mutants, written by Jonathan Hickman and Ed Brisson with art by Rod Reis. The blurb:
“The classic New Mutants—Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Karma, Magik, and Cypher—get together with a few new friends—Chamber and Mondo—to seek out their missing member and share the good news…a mission that takes them into space alongside the Starjammers!”
Fallen Angels, written by Bryan Edward Hill with art by Szymon Kudranski.
The pitch: “Psylocke finds herself in this new world of Mutantkind unsure of her place in it… But when a face from her past returns only to be killed, she seeks help from others to get vengeance. Cable and X-23 join Kwannon for a personal mission that could jeopardize all of mutant existence!”
X-Force, written by Benjamin Percy with art by Joshua Cassara. The teaser: “X-Force is the CIA of the mutant world—one half intelligence branch, one half special ops. Beast, Jean Grey, and Sage on one side—Wolverine, Kid Omega and Domino on the other.
In a perfect world, there would be no need for an X-Force. We’re not there…yet.”
We don’t know much yet and even Jonathan Hickman said this: “We’re taking a traditional name and a concept you don’t know about yet, and it looks like a bunch of nonsense, but it’s brilliant. If we told you the pitch right now it wouldn’t make sense.”
Yup. Some of these lineups certainly look like a bunch f nonsense, but that’s part of the journey. As we read through Hickman’s Powers of X | House of X event this summer, we’ll be able to see how the pieces fit together for these 6 new titles that will relate this October.
We don’t know much right now. But we do know that familiar characters will be put in new situations. We know that the X-Men will be going back to space. And we know it’s a great time to be an X-Men fan.
