Marvel SNAP is the latest mobile card-based game that’s sweeping the world! Leveraging the IP of your favorite Marvel superheroes, Marvel SNAP lets you play with all of the familiar faces that you’ve grown to love in Marvel comic book history.
Today we’re going to talk about the upcoming patch and what it means for your card collecting going forwards. This is a very big change for the game, which will allow players to craft the cards that they want to play with, instead of just unlocking them randomly through the various Series/Pools.
This patch doesn’t have a definitive date, but it’s coming very soon – within the next two weeks or so. Prepare your Collection Level accordingly to put yourself in the best position when it goes live.
Marvel Snap Token Shop
The main driver for this change to Marvel SNAP is that players wanted to take away the randomness of waiting to get cards in their collections. So, you’ll now be able to earn Collector’s Tokens in your Collector’s Caches or Reserves, starting at level 500. Then, you can use these tokens in the Token Shop to buy specific cards.
Don’t worry – you can pin a card that comes up in the Token Shop to save it for later if you don’t have the necessary credits at the time. So, as it stands, the Token Shop doesn’t let you just craft any card that you want; it has to show up in the shop. It’s sort of a strange middle-ground between letting players have all-access and opening up the collection banks a little bit.
Cards will cost a variable amount of Collection Tokens depending on what Series they’re currently in. These Series assignments will always be changing as the game progresses, as cards will go from Series 5 to 4, etc. Starting out, you’ll be able to craft cards in Series 3, Series 4, or Series 5:
Collection Token Costs per Series:
- Series 3 Card: 1000 Tokens
- Series 4 Card: 3000 Tokens
- Series 5 Card: 6000 Tokens
As you can see, Series 5 Cards, which are the most rare, cost a whopping 6000 Tokens. This is quite telling because when the patch goes live, players will be given a certain number of tokens depending on their current Collection Level.
Here are those Collection Level Thresholds:
- 500-999 CL: 3,000 Tokens
- 1000-2999 CL: 6,000 Tokens
- 3000+ CL: 12,000 Tokens
That means if you’re not at CL 1000, then you should try to get there before the patch hits. However, you can only earn so many Credits to make this happen, so you might be out of luck. For example, I’m sitting around CL 650 right now, and I would need close to 12,000 Credits in order to get the necessary Collection Levels to bring me to 1000. It’s just not going to happen. And it’s not only because of the Credits limitation; you also need to have the necessary boosters to level up those cards to begin with.
But, like I said, the jump of 3,000 Tokens from the first tier to the second is astronomical due to the crafting costs listed above. That’s a difference of crafting 3 extra Series 3 cards or 1 extra Series 1 card. That’s huge!
The average Credit cost per Collection Level is about 50. The main exception is that bringing a card from its base level to Uncommon (Green) only costs 25. It helps to smash a bunch of games with those base level cards to get the boosters and then get them up in level with Credits if you’re trying to stretch those Credits as far as you can.
With this update, we’re also getting a bunch of new cards.
