What to Listen to this Weekend: The 5 Best RPG Podcasts

For the week ending July 6th, 2018

There is a glut of great RPG podcasts out there for nerds. So many, in fact, that it’s hard to know where to begin! But we’ve got you. These four podcasts are the best of the bunch, and should be at the top of your weekend listening list.

Then we have a rotating 5th slot where we’ll highlight a podcast that had a particularly great episode on something related to one of our favorite RPG systems. It could be news, reviews, DM tips, or it could just be a particularly good episode.

Tune in to hear what you’re missing!

What to Listen to this Weekend

1 The Glass Cannon Podcast

The Glass Cannon Podcast

What is the Glass Cannon Podcast? Well, in the spirit of old school Dungeons and Dragons, a collection of five super-nerds (Joe O’Brien, Grant Berger, Matthew Capodicasa, Skid Maher, and Game Master Troy Lavallee) emerge blinking from their parents’ basements to engage in an Actual Play campaign of Paizo’s epic new Pathfinder adventure path, Giantslayer!

This week’s synopsis:

With the fate of the world at stake, the heroes look to volatile magics, impossible decisions and old friends.

Here’s the link: Episode 162: Half-Orc Will Travel 2: When Nature Kalls.

2 Androids and Aliens

Androids and Aliens

The aforementioned GCP crew take to the stars in an all new campaign in Paizo’s newest system: Starfinder. As a direct result of the Patreon support for Glass Cannon, they’re working through the Dead Suns AP in an all new podcast, and they’ve brought along a new cast member, Ellinor Dilorenzo!

This week’s synopsis:

Tensions rise among the crew as they continue their exploration of the Acreon.

Tune in to Episode 13:  Can I Take ‘Em to the Bridge?

3 Cannon Fodder

Cannon Fodder

With Sneak Attack! still on hiatus, we’re highlighting yet another from the Glass Cannon crew.  Its almost like
those guys have some stuff figured out…

Cannon Fodder is the behind-the-scenes podcast for all things GCP.  That includes The Glass Cannon Podcast, Android and Aliens, and the Patreon exclusive Ruins of Azlant campaign.  They also include all sorts of tips for players and GMs alike.

Give this week’s episode a listen for some insight on the two freebies and maybe – just maybe – you’ll also be incentivized to give these guys the $5/month necessary to access the excellent Ruins of Azlant campaign: Raiders of the Lost Continent.

This week’s synopsis:

Troy and Joe are BACK with an all new Cannon Fodder recorded LIVE this past Saturday on Twitch! They talk favorite and least favorite new game mechanics from Starfinder and the Pathfinder Playtest, what has surprised Troy about playing Colonel Luther von Hildebrand thus far, how a certain monk came to be introduced, and Troy’s inspiration for introducing horror into the main shows. Plus, they answer a TON of questions straight from the Twitch chat room!

Here it is:  Episode 90!

(Don’t worry, Sneak Attack! will be back soon with a brand new season 2!)

4 The Called Shot Podcast

The Called Shot Podcast

The Called Shot Podcast is playing through the official Skull and Shackles Adventure Path from Paizo. Called Shot includes all the gloriously dense Pathfinder RPG rules but presents them in a swashbuckling pirate adventure!

This week’s synopsis:

Join the crew this week as they continue investigating the atoll and all it’s wonders.

Hard to port and right into Episode 48 – That’s A Moray!

5 High Rollers

High Rollers

This week’s 5th slot goes to the High Rollers Podcast.  High Rollers began their second campaign this week.  DM Mark Hulmes leads a cast of both seasoned and newbie RPG players in their adventures in the home-brewed world of Aerois.  Holmes and Matt Mercer are buddies and it shows through in this podcast from across the pond.

This episode’s synopsis:

Welcome to Aerois! A brand new campaign in a brand new world with brand new characters!

The party are travelling to the Sky City of Gusthaven on an airship, the Sparrowblade. However, their journey quickly takes a complicated turn as they are awoken in the night by a thunderstorm and the sound of battle!

Get in on the ground floor of their second campaign by downloading Episode 1: Welcome to Aerois (Part One).

Happy listening!
