The Punchlist: This Week’s News for Nerds

Welcome to this week’s PUNCHLIST, where we round up the biggest news in nerd culture. It might be from the MCU, board gaming, D&D, and more. But whatever the news is this week, you can bet it will eventually separate you from your money.

7. Spider-Man 3 Has Begun Production

Tom Holland announced that he’d arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, to begin work on the Spider-Man threequel. Many casting confirmations and rumors have kept this movie at the front of fans’ minds over the last few months, and we’re sure to have a clearer picture of it soon as production winds up. The movie is currently set to release on December 17, 2021.

6. Shang-Chi Wraps Filming

Just as Spider-Man 3 begins its production, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has finished its filming. It is set to release on July 9, 2021 and will be the first American-made superhero movie with an all Asian cast. Don’t know who Shang-Chi is? We’ve got you covered!

5. Oscar Isaac in Talks to Star in Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney+

In even more MCU news (and who doesn’t love more MCU news?!), Oscar Isaac is negotiating with Disney to headline as Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. Isaac would then be the first actor to play a role in three Marvel projects from three different studios as three different characters: Fox (Apocalypse), Sony (voiced Spider-Man 2099 in Into the Spider-Verse), and Marvel.

4. Unearthed Arcana: New Ranger and Monk Archetypes

D&D 5e’s newest Unearthed Arcana features rules for two new archetypes: the Monk’s Way of the Ascendant Dragon and the Ranger’s Drakewarden. The Monk archetype allows the player to take on characteristics of a chosen dragon type for damage, as well as other dragon features like draconic speech, breath weapons, and even flight. The Drakewarden allows a Ranger to summon a control an increasingly powerful drake that has both offensive and defensive utilities.

3. Critical Role Expands with New Tabletop Game Publishing Company

Entitled Darrington Press and headed by Ivan Van Norman and Matthew Mercer, the new division of the Critical Role brand already has several titles announced for next year. Follow the link below to see what they’ll bring to your tables in 2021!

2. Netflix Has Big Plans for Assassin’s Creed Franchise

Netflix struck a deal with Ubisoft to develop live action, animated, and anime series based on all things Assassin’s Creed. They unveiled a logo, but there’s no casting news attached to it. Here’s hoping it sees better success than the 2016 movie!

1. Meet the Cast of Marvel Comics’ Upcoming SWORD Title

Drawn by Valerio Schiti and written by Al Ewing, SWORD #1 releases in December. Polygon got a first look at the team’s makeup, as well as justifications for each member’s inclusion from Ewing himself. The post also features a first look at the book. We’re including concept art for Wiz-Kid below because Wiz-Kid is back!
