Welcome to this week’s PUNCHLIST, where we round up the biggest news in nerd culture. It might be from the MCU, board gaming, D&D, and more. But whatever the news is this week, you can bet it will eventually separate you from your money.
7. New Predator Movie On The Way
Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) is set to direct the untitled Pedator film which is rumored to take place in pre-colonial America. This theory arises from a project titled Skulls that Trachtenberg became attached to last year. Its logline reads, “Skulls will follow a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.” Others noted that the aliens have a canonical but secret history on Earth, citing a particular scene in Predator 2.

6. Detective Comics #27 Sales Record
Issues of Batman’s debut have sold at auction before, but not for $1.5 million! The only other single issues to sell for over $1 million are Action Comics #1 (first appearance of Superman) and Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider-Man).

5. Video Game Sales Continue Breaking Records
In Q2 of this year, video game sales were up 28% over the same quarter of 2019. Q3 saw an increase of 24% over last years numbers. Every format of the market saw gains: physical software, console content, PC content, and even mobile content and subscriptions. COVID’s sheltering and social distancing is believed to play a huge role in the surge.

4. New James Bond Video Game Being Developed By IO Interactive
The team behind the Hitman series confirmed they’re working on an untitled James Bond video game. The teaser describes the game as “wholly original” and “the very first James Bond origin story.” IO’s CEO Hakan Abrakin hopes the game will prove “the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.” The last James Bond video game came to us in 2012: 007 Legends.

3. DMZ Limited Series Ordered by HBO Max
HBO Max ordered a pilot last year, and greenlit a limited series which will begin production next year. Rosario Dawson and Benjamin Bratt are the leads in the show, whose backdrop is another America Civil War. It is based off the comic of the same name available from Vertigo/DC Comics – which we here at Nerds on Earth hail as excellent reading.

2. New Collection of Tolkien Essays to be Published by HarperCollins
The Nature of Middle-earth will feature essays by Tolkien as he fleshed out the setting for his Lord of the Rings novels. History and lore will feature prominently in the collection that will answer questions such as “whether Elves are immortal, or undergo reincarnation, the exact nature of the Valar, the beasts of Numenor, whether both male and female dwarves can grow beards,” and more. Sounds like a must-have for all Middle-earth enthusiasts!

1. Wonder Woman 1984 to Hit Theaters and HBO Max on Same Day
The movie is set to debut (finally!) on December 25th, both in theaters and on HBO Max. Director Patty Jenkins made the announcement on Twitter last week after the premier date was booted from June to October and now Christmas Day. You can catch the newest trailer below!
