The Punchlist: This Week’s News for Nerds

Welcome to this week’s PUNCHLIST, where we round up the biggest news in nerd culture. It might be from the MCU, board gaming, D&D, Star Wars, and more. But whatever the news is this week, you can bet we’re geeking out about it.

7. Board Games are Moving Again

COVID19 put a halt on the publication of hundreds of board games, as it did with so many other things. But now that shops are opening back up, board games are being released at a higher clip than we’ve seen in the past several months.

And although conventions have been cancelled this summer, eliminating the biggest showrooms for new product, Board Game Geek (BGG) has curated the titles being released this summer. Give them a look, we’re sure you’ll see something you like.

6. Comic Books are Moving Again

Just like with board games, the release of new comic books slowed as well. But Diamond is distributing again (albeit without DC, who has entered into new distribution arrangements.)

So what new comic books are coming? Well, look no further than Marvel Previews, which gives us a nice like at a big X-Men event in September, plus a whole lot more!

4. Warhammer Comic Coming to Marvel

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the 9th edition to the Warhammer 40k miniatures game, Games Workshop is partnering with Marvel Comics to bring us Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar. Follow the legendary Space Marine as he fights for the human race!

3. New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie on the Way

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver are being brought in to helm a CGI TMNT movie that is unrelated to the ongoing Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show and planned Netflix movie. Although that creative trio hasn’t produced any content that received below an R rating, their gift for humor is expected to highlight this reinvention.

2. Pokémon Breaks onto the MOBA Scene with Unite

Pokémon Unite is a new MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game coming to both the Switch and mobile platforms. Staged on a familiar three-lane map, teams of Pokémon will try and destroy their opponent’s base as they level up and even evolve.
