A Look at the Trailers from this Summer’s Nerdy Movies

Like every summer the last few years, it seems like this is the summer of nerd movies. But, seriously, there will be some great nerdy movies this summer. So here is a quick run down of some of the most recent trailers.

 

Fantastic Four 2nd Trailer

Boy, I have to say, this trailer redeemed what was an awful first trailer. I went from “Oh, please, no.” to really looking forward this one.

I love the science take combined with the normalcy of Johnny Storm and the Thing. Granted, the government agents piece is played out, but is Dr. Doom other dimensional? That’s interesting. So this one definitely moved up list of movies I am looking forward to.

 

Ant-Man 2nd Trailer

So, remember last summer when we all wondered if Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be the first failure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This year’s entry is Ant-Man. But…I am all in.

I think this movie is going to have the necessary comic beats but also has some real, gritty story, with Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, picking and grooming Scott Lang as the Ant-man. Add in the first views of the Yellowjacket as the villain and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne and I am convinced this movie will work. Maybe not the blockbuster that Guardians was but a solid film.

 

Jurassic World 2nd Trailer

So, in the most obvious throwback, cash grabbing money movie of the summer, we have Jurassic World. Chris Pratt in a leather vest, the renegade Alpha of a bunch of velociraptors who are our only hope against a bigger, meaner, genetically modified T. Rex? Who am I kidding, I’m in. It isn’t going to win any Oscars but it may be this summer’s “I pay the IMAX surcharge” movie.

 

Tomorrowland 2nd Trailer

This is the sleeper movie of the summer. It has managed to fly under the radar but it has all the potential in the world. An excellent cast coupled with a fantastic storytelling director. Decent special effects.

Tomorrowland might wind up being the summer movie to watch. Plus it launches early in the summer, so it may be the one that gains momentum all summer at the box office. Finally, I love that the trailer tells me lots but I have no idea what the whole story is.

 

Age of Ultron 3rd Trailer

So, let’s be honest. The only question is does this movie cross the 2 billion dollar mark and how quickly does it do it. It is the next massive piece in the every expanding universe and it’s May 1st start date means it will be raking in cash all summer long.

This trailer gives you the necessary beats and hints at some interesting turns, like Black Widow and Hulk as a couple. Plus, the early reviews talking up Hawkeye as a starring piece make me enthusiastic and believing against all hope that a West Coast Avengers movie might happen one day. (Pay attention: core members Hawkeye, Vision and the Scarlet Witch are in this movie!)
