The Punchlist: This Week’s News for Nerds

Welcome to this week’s PUNCHLIST, where we round up the biggest news in nerd culture. It might be from the MCU, board gaming, D&D, and more. But whatever the news is this week, you can bet it will eventually separate you from your money.

7. DC Set to Launch Premium Digital Comic Book Service

DC Universe is transforming into DC Universe Infinite in January of next year, offering subscribers over 24,000 comic titles. Their video content is shifting to HBO Max. Infinite will run about $75/year.

6. Pathfinder 2e’s Strength of Thousands AP Will Take Players to Magic School

Releasing in July 2021 and set in the Mwangi Expanse, Strength of Thousands will take players from 1st to 20th level as they advance from students, to teachers, to world-saving heroes. The Adventure Path (AP) will lean heavily upon magic, and new spell casting abilities will debut that permit classes who otherwise aren’t magically inclined to play along.

5. Paizo Announces Lost Omens: Absalom, City of Lost Omens

The Lost Omens line is a series of lore-heavy supplements to Paizo’s Pathfinder RPG. The 256-page Absalom, City of Lost Omens (retail $46.99) digs deep into the history and culture of its titular city. Releasing alongside it is the City of Lost Omens Poster Map Folio (retail $24.99), which features four eight-panels maps that combine to show Absalom in incredible detail! Release dates have not been announced.

4. She-Hulk Has Been Cast

Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black fame has been officially cast as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk for the series of the same name heading to Disney+ sometime in 2022. Kat Coiro is set to direct, and Jessica Gao is attached to write.

3. Microsoft Acquires Bethesda

Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media, home of Bethesda Softworks and Id Software, in a $7.5 billion deal, bringing franchises like Doom, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and more under Microsoft’s banner. Bethesda’s games will now release on Xbox’s Game Pass, including same-day releases for future titles.

2. Mando Mondays!

Beginning on Monday, October 26th and continuing for the life of the second season, the Mando Mondays website will release new toys, collectibles, books, comics, and more tied to the episode they follow. Catch the show on Friday and buy new merch on Monday!

1. WandaVision Trailer

The official trailer for WandaVision dropped! It still does not have an official release date, but it’s expected sometime late this year. At the very least, no announcements have been made that is delayed until 2021 – as has Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
