Marvel Strike Force: What to Do with Orb Events?

Welcome back to MSF Mondays!

Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Mobile Strike Force!

One of the hottest topics of conversation in the MSF community is the potential orb opening event coming in December. You may recall the Avalanche Event last winter, or the Chimichanga event from this summer. It seems that MSF has started a 6-month orb opening event rotation and so, as we wait for December to draw nearer, how do we prepare?

Marvel Strike Force: Hold Those Orbs!

There are many great videos out right now on how to prepare for the orb event, and there is one very common theme among all of them: If you are a new player, it might hamper your progress too much to hoard too many orbs.

Even still, we can all stand to be a little selective in which orbs we hoard for an event like this, but for newer players (1 – 5 months in), your early game progress is vital to laying the path to your mid- and end-game. So, open away and then count anything you gain through this event as gravy.

Endgame players—over a year in game and/or in or completed with Dark Dimensions 1 and 2—you can really sit on any and all orbs and just wait, because you will want/need the rewards from this event to propel you forward into the later stages of endgame like DD 3 and beyond.

It is likely that you are all over most events and if you need a specific character to be leveled up you shouldn’t compromise a Legendary event for the sake of orb opening. But if you are at a good spot with character unlocks and such, it will pay off for you to be extra patient for the orb event.

For players starting to level off into a mid-game path (6 – 12 months) you have an interesting challenge before you. Unless you are whaling—spending money—you probably need a lot of what your orbs have to offer. So this article is perhaps most pertinent for you. I have a list of 7 orbs, in order from easiest to hoard, to hardest to hoard.

First, the orb you should NEVER sit on, is the free orb found on the home page. You can only hold 2 and they regenerate every 4 hours, so open them immediately as you open the game.

Onto the list!

Marvel Strike Force: Orb List

Basic Orb – This one is a great orb to sit on, because the haul from these orbs is never really that great.

Training Orb – While at different points in the game most players will feel a crunch on training materials, the training orb doesn’t provide so many materials that you will slow your progress too much. If you are spending cores for all the 50 energy refreshes you should be bringing enough training mats through farming that you will be able to stay on track with your important toons.

Ability Orb – Similarly with ability orbs, they just don’t give enough materials to not hoard for events like this! If you are in an alliance that raids frequently, you are bringing in enough ability mats that you should be able to upgrade all the important toons you have!

Gear Orbs – This one is tricky, because you should hoard based on level. If you are the early game player, sit on your orange gear orbs, because you won’t need the payoff from them until much later. Whereas endgame players should hoard blue gear because they can be patient catching up newly unlocked toons. Purple gear should always be opened, because even an early game player should have 1 or 2 stronger squads they are focusing on!

Premium Orb – These orbs are the source of much controversy. The name implies these are your premium orbs, however, the rewards often come with mixed reactions. You more often than not are met with a flood of minion shards instead of characters like Minnerva or YoYo, so I often try to sit on these orbs until I have 10 or more anyway, to play around with seed theory.

Milestone Orb –  These orbs have a lot of promise, but similarly to the premium orb, they don’t always yield what we desire most, Symbiote Spidey and Colson, too often we get stuck with A.I.M. toons or Ant-man. So again, in testing seed theory, I only go to this orb when I have a hot hand.

Gold Orb – I know that the gold crunch is almost always felt at any level of player, and I don’t recommend hoarding a crazy amount of gold orbs, BUT if you are able to hold on to these as the event nears, you can start to get better hauls by opening up a bunch all at once. So, at least consider it if possible.

Like any event, the idea is to added on to how we can gain resources to aid in our progress! So hopefully we can shift our perspective on what we may end up missing out on, and think about all that which we have gained through the event! I know this sounds a little pie in the sky for a mobile game, however, given all that has happened in 2020, can’t we strive to look at the bright side of things more often?

Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
