Marvel Strike Force: Skip Skillitary

Welcome back to MSF Mondays!

Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Mobile Strike Force!

So one of the biggest announcements recently, was the new characters of Red Guardian and Yelena Belova coming to bring a MUCH-needed buff to the Military tag. The actual team is best when you have “skill” and “military” tags combined, thus the “skill-tary” team name. And while this team does look like it will be a buzzsaw of a team, the cost to get there might just be too much for the average player.

Tauna did a great video breaking down the investment not really matching the benefit for the average player. He argues that the team will require too much invest of T4 ability materials, and those are just TOO valuable to anyone who isn’t a whale.

The Orange materials for ability upgrades come at such a slow clip, that you have to be extremely selective on who gets them! So, unless you are swimming in Orange Ability materials, then you shouldn’t be putting them on characters that aren’t universally useful.

While Tauna breaks this down really well for the newly introduced Skillitary team, I believe that this is going to be more the norm for the new teams coming to the game. MSF has been releasing approximately 30 new toons a year and the reality is, that each new team cannot possibly be the new “meta.” Which isn’t a bad thing by any means. It just means for the casual or free-to-play players, we have to pick and choose which teams we put top level resources into, and which team are just blitz rotation teams for us.

Also the unfortunate thing with the new Skillitary squad is that we would have to poach toons from other teams. The first is Punisher, and while the Defenders aren’t exactly a team worth keeping together if you can give a big boost to Punisher, it doesn’t make sense to break up the team when you have to throw T4s on Punisher for his new abilities. Likewise, if we move Killmonger to this team, as is suggested, then we lose yet another valuable member to a decent or good team.

Most people may have moved Killmonger to the Mercenary team, though again, I would have suggested just leaving Wakandans intact and going easy on Taskmaster and the Mercs. Look how quickly that team got surpassed by power creep, by the way.

Lastly, there is Merc Solder would also need T4 materials to be maximized on this team. Merc Solder. Not exactly a toon you would roll into Dark Dimension with, nor would this team be a top 100 Arena team. And really, when we are talking about T4 ability materials, these really need to go to characters you are using to push high in Arena, or taking into Dark Dimension 2 and beyond.

Ultimately, I am in agreement with Tauna on skipping the Skillitary team. For my gameplay experience, I like having teams together as much as possible. While of course there are exceptions—which I will be talking about coming up in a series on creative team compositions—it is more fun for me to roll through blitz rotations with “right” teams! I also am laser-focused on building the right toons for Dark Dimension 3, which is my next step into the late game!

Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!
