Marvel Strike Force: Is there a Future for MSF?

Source: https://www.marvelstrikeforce.com/en/updates/blog-update-2-12

Welcome back to MSF Mondays!

Each week we break down one more aspect of the hottest mobile game, Marvel Strike Force!

Most assuredly you have heard the cries that the sky is falling on MSF for the past couple weeks or so, and some content creators are calling for round 2 of #FixMSF and another spending strike. The last patch wasn’t great, including the content apparently addressed, along with the myriad of bugs in the game and legendary schedule errors.

However, here at Nerds on Earth we are not about the gloom and doom. So, I want to take a bit of a proactive approach to all the salt being throw around.

In fact, this post has been a long time coming because my favorite YouTuber Papokeman was way out in from of this. He had been seeing little things here and there which he would mention in his videos. He then compiled them into a 20-minute video essay in January. It is well worth the watch, but fear not, I have bullet points with my own little mustard to add.

So, how do we fix Marvel Strike Force?

1 – Un-Restrict the META

We are starting out hot with this one because this seems to be a HUGE frustration for most players. What do we mean by “un-restrict the META?” Well, as of now, the game in many ways dictates the META toons and teams. Of course there should be a top-end comprised of powerful toons and teams, but how MSF uses their synergies makes it not only limiting but almost impossible to compete without the exact right toons or teams.

A prime example is the X-Men. I did a post on how the X-Men and how their sub-tags are a mess, which is compounded by the fact that MSF has chosen to not allow much crossover, keeping them at 2 unique X-Men teams, Astonishing and Uncanny. While I am in favor of Uncanny toons being better together, all of the X-Men should still be somewhat interchangeable.

Likewise, you should be able to put together good team with good synergies without all 5 members of a team because not every player has every toon unlocked.

Which brings us to our second point and honestly this might have to be a lead-in to a longer post about a complete overhaul of the stores (which Papokeman talks about brilliantly).

2 – Farm-ability of characters

The farm-ability of toons is sad because of the lack of intentionality behind the use of nodes, stores, and orbs. We have characters such as Cull Obsidian and Beast who are not yet farmable or “fountainable,” as MSF has begun saying. And we have characters such as Yo-Yo, Coulson, and Symbiote Spider-Man (SSM) who are orb-exclusive which make attaining them a RNG nightmare.

While I understand and like the way they do Legendary characters and their events, getting the necessary characters to unlock said Legendaries should be manageable without spending money or relying on luck. A game like this is most fun with there is a sense of reward for your efforts and when too much of it comes down to opening the wallet or seed theory, then it loses the appeal of playing.

Like I said, we will have to dive much deeper on this issue later.

3 – Resource Scarcity

The game’s resources have only ever increased based on the original level 60 for toons. As the game has increased to level 80, the resource scarcity (which was always a bit of an issue) has been compounded dramatically. Papokeman uses XP as an example: to go from Level 60 to 61 you needed 19,000 XP whereas to go from Level 79 to 80 you need 70,000.

We could go through and do this for every resource needed in game and the results would be the same—this is why there is a constant bottleneck on training mats and or gold in-game. And as they say, 2 bottlenecks makes Scople-neck. That’s the saying, right?

This game needs to increase resource drops exponentially with each new level added, not just in XP but for all resources. That would include boosting the resources received in the daily challenge modes and perhaps adding an event for training materials like they have with chaos theory or relic hunt!

Well, it looks like this is going to be at least a two-part post, so if you don’t watch the video come back next Monday for Part 2!

Well I hope this helps you take your Squad from a D+ to a B- Commander!

Game Radar

Blitz: Monday’s Blitz is the Power Armor Powerhouse, Iron Patriot War Machine! Thursday is the second round of Iceman. Cool!

Upcoming Events

Hot Tip: Since the core event is happening right now (whether you think it is a trash or not) there is one particularly good buy in the offer store if you are making a play to Blitz hard for Iceman this week and Bishop Round 2 next week.

In the offer store they have brought back the 250 energy and 150 blitz energy for 175 power cores. This offer is good if you sometimes buy energy refreshes at the 100 core mark, but alas, if you have 500 blitz energy, this purchase will go above your max to give you 650 for Iceman.

I will buy these offers since the power cores are gaining me some extra chili cheese during this event and I suggest you do the same. HOWEVER, the Moon Knight event is coming, so DO NOT go broke on power cores because you will want them for this campaign event release!

Upcoming Legendary: Black Bolt is coming up and since the schedule got shuffled they are going to double the shards for your Asgardians in the log-in calendar leading up to this Legendary event!

Black Bolt: April 27th, August 17th, December 7th (Requires Asgardians 5-star)

Shuri: May 11th, August 31st (Requires Spider-verse 5-star)

Ebony Maw: May 25th, September 14th (Requires Inhumans 5-star with Black Bolt)

Phoenix: June 8th, September 28th (Requires Mystic Villain Controller 6-star)

Star-Lord: June 22nd, October 12th (Requires Guardians or Ravagers 5-star)

Nick Fury: July 20th, November 11th (Requires Kree Minions 5-star)

Magneto: August 3rd, November 23rd (Requires X-Men and/or Brotherhood 5-star)
